VSHFM banguet roomThis 2,775 square-foot room is ideal for sit-down banquets, trade shows, receptions, and large meetings. A flexible floor plan accommodates groups of 50 to 300. For larger events, tents can be added to the adjoining patio. This room houses temporary exhibits, which are sure to add color and ambiance to your event. Click here to view our wedding guide.

G. Robert Aston Boardroom

VSHFM boardroomWith its conference-style seating, the Boardroom is perfect for corporate use. It is outfitted with a complete audiovisual system and a wet bar with coffee maker, ice maker, and mini-fridge. Ideal for meetings, luncheons, and retreats.

Cox Digital Theater

VSHFM COX digital theaterOur theater features “stadium” seating for 125, and is available for multimedia presentations, lectures, training, musical events, or watching the big game! The theater features an elevated stage, 16-foot H/D screen, podium, and surround-sound system. Internet, DVD, VHS, and cable-ready. Completely handicap-accessible.

Our Team Rooms are a great setting for meetings, breakout sessions, and small parties.

Capacity: 40 banquet, 60 theater, 75 standing

VSHFM Second FloorIncludes open reception areas, and the G. Robert Aston Board Room (seats 35).

Rental Policies


Rental rates are determined according to base room rental rates, the number of guests expected, and the time and duration of event.

Included with rental:

  • Access to exhibits
  • Use of catering kitchen
  • Tables & chairs in the Hall of Fame’s inventory
    • 20 five-foot round tables
    • 14 six-foot banquet tables
    • 10 24-inch cocktail tables (for standing)
    • 208 padded captain’s chairs
    • 8 riser sections – 3 by 6 ft, 8-inch rise
    • free-standing podium

Additional fees may apply for:

  • Rental of specialized equipment
  • Clean-up
  • Exhibit staffing
  • Security

Total cost of event will be determined at time of contract.

Approved Caterers

The Hall of Fame has a list of suggested vendors. More detailed information on food and beverage service will be provided upon request. (Note: The rental fee does not include provisions for catering. Request The Latest List Of Approved Caterers.)


Parking is available in the Middle Street garage, operated by the City of Portsmouth. This garage holds 200+ vehicles, and charges a rate of $1 per hour during business hours. Parking is free in the garage after 6 PM and on weekends. Limited free street parking is also available.

Birthday/Team Parties

The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame & Museum is a great place for team & kids birthday parties, with packages starting as low as $12.95 per person (groups 10-80). The Museum is your one-stop birthday party destination for the Hampton Roads area, Portsmouth and the surrounding region.

Two adult chaperones are admitted free. Meals not included with the adult complimentary admission; however, adults can purchase a meal for a small fee.

Additional adults may purchase an admission for only $5 per person. If they would like a meal with the group, they will be required to pay the full package price.

A deposit is due at the time of reservation. Deposit can be paid with a credit card over the phone or cash. Deposit is non-refundable if cancellation is made two weeks or less prior to the party date.

Children ages 2 and younger are admitted free but will be charged a small fee if they would like a meal.

The birthday or team party will be held in a specially decorated room in the museum for two hours on a weekend day. Plates, napkins, and forks are provided.

  1. The Virginia Sports Hall of FameThe Hall of Fame

    The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame opened its doors on April 22, 2005. The state-of-the-art facility is the latest addition to the many high quality family attractions in Hampton Roads. The 35,000 square-foot Hall is located in Downtown Portsmouth, directly across from the Children’s Museum of Virginia and about a block from the Portsmouth waterfront.

    The Hall of Fame's Hall of Honor is a tribute to the inductees and includes electronic databases with multimedia displays as well as plaques honoring both athletes and media inductees.

  3. Redskins Skybox ExperienceRedskins Skybox Experience

    Many call it “Virginia’s Team,” and few can deny the connection between the Washington Redskins and the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Skybox lets you watch a multimedia presentation on the history of the team in luxury, surrounded by artifacts of the team’s storied past.

    New and traditional media and their role in sports are the topics for exploration in the Virginia Sports Center. And visitors have the chance to feel what it’s like to be behind the mic and “Make The Call” for some of Virginia’s most exciting highlights.

    Every college and university in Virginia with an athletic program is celebrated as we honor their traditions, the great players, coaches and games from our rich sports history. And be sure to look up as we trace Virginia's contributions to sports on the covers of Sports Illustrated.

  6. Dr. Ronald E. Carrier Stars of the CommonwealthDr. Ronald E. Carrier Stars of the Commonwealth

    The stars and headline makers of today combine with the greats from the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in this exhibit area. You'll also find a look at some of the great high school championship teams from across the state.

  7. Bon Secours Training RoomBon Secours Training Room

    With virtual exercise equipment called Exerscapes and other interactive exhibits, visitors discover what it takes to be a highly conditioned athlete. Computer games and hands-on displays help visitors to play and learn about training, fitness, nutrition and the science of sports medicine.

  8. Chuck Boone Sports ComplexChuck Boone Sports Complex

    Here you can see if your fastball is ready for the big time. Hands-on fun for sports fans of all ages is what the museum’s Sports Complex has to offer! This interactive center includes baseball, football and soccer activities.

  9. Virginia Golf ExhibitVirginia Golf Exhibit

    Through creative displays, graphics, montages, artifacts, memorabilia and A/V presentations, guests will get an inside look at the golf experience in Virginia – from the top amateur players, and professionals to some of the finest and most challenging golf courses in the country.

  10. Paul Sawyer Auto Racing ExhibitPaul Sawyer Auto Racing Exhibit

    Learn about the history of auto racing in Virginia, or take a spin in our computer racing simulators in the Auto Racing Hall. The exhibit is built around a real racecar that took the checkered flag in one of NASCAR’s centerpiece races with a Virginia driver at the wheel.

  11. Cox Digital TheatreCox Digital Theatre

    The 125-seat theater introduces the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum to visitors through a multimedia presentation on the rich history of Virginia sports. Along with hosting museum events and presentations, the theater can be used for business and social activities.

    Ideal for seated dinners, receptions, large meetings and trade shows. The Sports Gallery is a spacious 2,775 sq.ft. to accommodate your group's needs and make your event one to remember.

    Here you can test your skills on the court. Take your best free throw or 3-point shot and see how you measure up! Hands-on fun and instruction for sports fans of all ages.

    The Final Score is more than a gift shop. It is a full scale fan's paradise featuring a wide variety of unique gifts, licensed merchandise and special sports themed gifts for young and.. well... not so young.

Facility Rentals

The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame & Museum is not only a great family attraction, but it represents one of Hampton Roads’ most unique entertainment facilities available to the public.

Day or night you can use the Hall to host special events, receptions and presentations in a variety of settings. Or, rent the Hall for an evening as an exclusive playground for your company or organization.
